A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Zahra, the hands and heart behind Banana & Clay. I’m thrilled to welcome you into my world of vibrant, slow-made polymer clay creations. Creativity has always been my anchor, but finding polymer clay felt like turning on the lights. I fell utterly in love with its versatility, the endless mixing of colours, and its power to transform a simple block of clay into a tiny, wearable statement of joy.
Behind the Name
When people ask me why my business is called Banana & Clay, the simplest answer is that it’s named after my daughter, Hana, affectionately known to us as Hana Banana. But if I’m really sharing my heart, the name means so much more than that.
Hana is our miracle. She was born after years of battling infertility and enduring multiple heartbreaking rounds of IVF. She was the bright light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel.
In 2022 and 2023, we decided to open our hearts and go through IVF again. Tragically, each pregnancy ended in loss. I found myself in a horrendous place mentally and emotionally, navigating a grief that felt heavy and consuming.
That was when I found polymer clay. Sitting down to create became the exact moment I started to find my joy again. The clay healed me in ways I didn't know were possible, mirroring the exact way Hana had brought light back into my life after our very first battle with infertility.
And so, it only felt right to name my business after my little curly-haired ball of happiness. Banana & Clay is a celebration of resilience, of healing, and of the unconditional joy that can bloom after the hardest storms.
MY MISSION
For me, this business is about so much more than just beautiful accessories. Life can be beautiful, but it can also be profoundly challenging. Beyond the clay, I am a huge advocate for Endometriosis awareness, infertility, and mental health; issues that are incredibly close to my heart.
There is nothing better in this world than making someone feel special, loved, and seen. If I can bring a little bit of light to your day and make you feel uniquely beautiful through my jewellery, then my purpose is completely fulfilled.
